According to Al Jazeera, on Monday, May 18, 2026, Iran strongly rejected growing international pressure on Monday over its nuclear program, maintaining that uranium enrichment is an inalienable national prerogative, even though secret discussions with the US are ongoing.
Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei took a measured but firm stance during a news briefing in Tehran, indicating that diplomacy is ongoing but that Iran will not budge from its position of perceived sovereign entitlement.
The matter “cannot be negotiated,” Baghaei said, adding, “Iran’s nuclear enrichment is a right that already exists.”
The timing of his comments is problematic in the region. The Middle East has become more unstable due to months of fighting between Israel, Iran, and the US, and delicate diplomatic efforts now have exceptionally high stakes.
International mediators are attempting to stop the crisis from getting worse while energy markets are still volatile and fighting goes on on multiple fronts.
Baghaei provided a rare sign that communication channels between the two rivals are still open, confirming that talks with Washington are still ongoing through Pakistani mediation, despite the harsh rhetoric that has been openly exchanged in recent days.
For a long time, the uranium enrichment issue has been at the heart of the rift between Tehran and Western nations.
International accords shield civilian enrichment, according to Iran, but the United States and its allies have long voiced worry that Iran’s sophisticated enrichment capabilities could speed up the development of nuclear weapons.
Tehran now sees broader implications beyond nuclear technology. The present clash has seen Iranian officials rely more and more on themes of national sovereignty, regional influence, and resistance to outside pressure; they are all related.
A lot of people outside of the negotiation table are watching what happens next. A breakdown in diplomacy has the potential to exacerbate instability in the Gulf, jeopardise energy supplies that are already precarious, and involve additional regional actors in a conflict that has shown recurrent indications of crossing borders.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
