According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the internal crisis surrounding the presidential primaries of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified after former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi rejected the outcome of the exercise, citing allegations of widespread irregularities and voter exclusion.
Amaechi, who was among the aspirants for the party’s presidential ticket, described the result of the primaries as unacceptable, insisting that the process was allegedly manipulated and failed to meet democratic expectations. He maintained that the exercise did not reflect the level of fairness and transparency the party had earlier promised Nigerians.
In a statement posted on his official X account, the former Rivers State governor said he could not accept or recognize the outcome of what he described as a compromised process, adding that the credibility of the election had been seriously damaged.
He further alleged that the exercise was marked by serious irregularities, including claims that a large number of eligible party members were prevented from taking part in the voting process across various regions of the country.
Amaechi also stated that about 80 percent of party members were unable to vote, raising questions about how such a limited level of participation could produce a legitimate result. He additionally accused the ADC of adopting the same practices it had previously condemned in Nigeria’s wider electoral system, including alleged manipulation and other forms of malpractice.
According to him, the party had consistently criticized issues such as vote buying and falsification of results in national elections, but was now being accused of repeating similar actions within its own internal democratic process.
He warned that the conduct of the primaries went against the founding principles of the ADC and cautioned that such disputes could damage public confidence in the party ahead of future elections.
