Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed the presidential prospects of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, declaring him unfit to win a general election.
Amaechi also firmly stated his resolve to remain in the presidential race, vowing that he will not step down for any candidate ahead of the party primaries.
Speaking during a live television interview on Trust TV on Monday night, the former Rivers State governor analyzed the political track record of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate.
Amaechi pointed out that while Atiku has a history of securing party tickets, he consistently fails to replicate that success at the national polls.
He argued that winning internal party primaries means nothing if a candidate lacks the appeal to secure a victory in the main election.
Amaechi specifically highlighted Atiku’s decades-long pursuit of the presidency to back his claims about the former Vice President’s political limitations.
“He has been running since 1992. Every time he has won The Primaries, he losses the Election. It’s about Electability & Atiku is not electable” – Amaechi noted during the broadcast.
The presidential hopeful further explained that the narrative surrounding Atiku’s undefeated streak in primary elections is irrelevant to the current political realities facing the country.
Amaechi stated, “I listen when they say former Vice President Atiku said he has never failed the primaries before. I hope this will be the first time he fails the primaries. That is not the issue, the issue is that every time he has passed the primaries, he has not won the election.”
Amaechi maintained that the ruling party needs a candidate who can command votes across all geopolitical zones in the general election, rather than someone who merely excels at winning delegate votes during party conventions.
He emphasized that his track record as a two-term governor and minister positions him as the most qualified candidate to lead the party to victory.
