Public affairs analyst Jide Ojo has said Siminalayi Fubara may still get political appointments in the future despite stepping away from the 2027 governorship race in Rivers State.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Ojo said Fubara entered into a political battle too early without building a strong structure of loyal supporters. According to him, the governor’s disagreement with his political godfather, Nyesom Wike, weakened his position in the state’s political scene.

Ojo explained that Fubara’s withdrawal from the race could help reduce tensions in Rivers politics. He also said reports claiming Fubara agreed to serve only one term showed that the governor decided to put peace ahead of political ambition.

The analyst added that Fubara should remain grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for intervening during the political crisis in Rivers State, saying the intervention helped prevent the governor from being impeached.

Ojo further stated that Fubara could still be rewarded with positions such as a ministerial or ambassadorial appointment in the future. He added that the governor could also make a political comeback later, pointing to similar political situations that had happened before in Ekiti State.

In his words, “Fubara could still be compensated with a ministerial appointment, an ambassadorial appointment, he could even come back to do his second term.”
