According to a video on TVC News, on Wednesday June 3, 2026, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, made a striking declaration that he would have devoted himself entirely to supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had the African Democratic Congress presidential primary been conducted in a transparent and credible manner.
The statement came during a live television interview in which Lawal was pressed on whether his opposition to Atiku was personal or principled.
His response left little room for ambiguity, drawing a clear line between his objection to the process and any personal animosity toward the former vice president.
When the interviewer posed a hypothetical scenario, asking whether Lawal would have backed Atiku if the primary had been genuinely free and fair, Lawal’s answer was immediate and emphatic.
He made clear that his current position was not driven by personal rivalry but by a deep commitment to democratic principles and the integrity of internal party processes.
In his words, Babachir Lawal said, “Obviously, I would have died doing it. Why are you still using the word assume? If Atiku had won free and fair and square, I’ll kill myself supporting him, campaigning for him,” he said.
Lawal used the moment to expand on what he described as a fundamental conviction that has shaped his approach to Nigerian politics.
He argued that the manner in which political leaders emerge is directly connected to the quality of governance the country can expect.
In his view, a flawed process of emergence produces flawed leaders, and no amount of campaign enthusiasm can compensate for a fraudulent selection process.
He stated clearly that internal democracy within political parties is not a procedural formality but a critical foundation for fixing Nigeria’s broader governance problems.
According to him, when that foundation is compromised, the entire political structure becomes unreliable.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
