In a recent interview shared by Arise News, professor of strategic management and Human Capital Development, Okey Ikechukwu offered a sharp critique of the Federal Government’s communication style and its impact on public perception.
He argued that official messaging has increasingly appeared disconnected from the realities faced by many Nigerians, especially amid economic challenges and rising insecurity.
Referencing the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris Malagi, he stated, “If you listen to the Minister of Information, his narrative is that it doesn’t go where it doesn’t make sense.”
Ikechukwu noted that such narratives often fail to directly address pressing national concerns and may leave citizens confused about government priorities.
According to him, effective governance requires clear, consistent communication supported by visible results, not statements that seem dismissive of public struggles.
He emphasized that Nigerians are more concerned about tangible improvements in areas such as electricity supply, security, and economic stability.
The professor warned that widening gaps between government messaging and lived experiences could weaken public trust in institutions.
He urged authorities to adopt greater transparency and accountability in both policy execution and communication.
Ikechukwu concluded that restoring confidence will depend on aligning official narratives with measurable improvements in citizens’ daily lives.
