According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has said he has no regrets backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections instead of supporting his former political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Jibrin made the statement on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He explained that although he has chosen a different political path from Kwankwaso, he still deeply respects the former Kano governor, whom he described as his benefactor and political mentor.
According to him, his decision should not be seen as betrayal. He stressed that his departure from Kwankwaso’s political camp was not voluntary, insisting that he was actually removed from the party structure.
Despite the fallout, he maintained that he would not engage in any form of public criticism against Kwankwaso.
“I didn’t abandon him; I was expelled from the party. Kwankwaso remains my mentor and I will always respect him. I will not speak against him or join issues with him,” he said.
Reacting to concerns about his alignment with President Tinubu over Kwankwaso’s political movement, the former spokesperson for Kwankwaso’s 2023 presidential campaign insisted that his support for Tinubu was based on conviction and not disloyalty.
He added that his political choices should be understood within the context of his past experiences, noting that even during the 2022 political period when he briefly left Tinubu’s campaign structure, he never publicly attacked the president but simply worked for another candidate.
Jibrin also commented on the political dynamics in Kano State, praising Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for actions he believes have unintentionally strengthened the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The lawmaker, who rejoined the APC after leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), was expelled in 2025 over alleged anti-party activities.
Since returning to the APC, he has become a prominent supporter of President Tinubu’s expected 2027 re-election bid.
