According to a report by PM News Nigeria on Monday, May 18, 2026, tragedy has deepened in Oyo State following reports that Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers abducted from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area, has been killed by his captors.

Security sources and circulating footage reviewed by journalists indicate that the victim was executed by the armed group responsible for the school attack. The attackers, locally referred to as members of the MetroBandits, were shown in a video that has since spread widely on social media platforms.

In the footage, Oyedokun was reportedly beheaded, a development that has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of schools and rural communities in the state. The video, said to have emerged on Sunday, May 17, 2026, has further heightened public anxiety over the fate of other abducted victims still in captivity.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, confirmed the killing of one of the abducted teachers in an official statement issued on Monday. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured residents that ongoing efforts to rescue remaining hostages remain a top priority of his administration.

Makinde said both military operations and intelligence-led approaches were being deployed to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the other victims.

He also disclosed that security agencies had made progress in the investigation, noting that about six suspects connected to the abduction had been arrested and were assisting with ongoing inquiries.

The governor further acknowledged the sacrifices of security operatives involved in rescue operations, including members of the military, the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilante groups. He noted that some personnel lost their lives after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) reportedly planted by the kidnappers along possible rescue routes.

According to him, several injured operatives are currently receiving medical treatment and are responding positively, while the state government has pledged to cover all associated medical expenses.

Makinde appealed for calm among residents, religious leaders, and families of the abducted victims, stressing that the government is working under difficult conditions to ensure their safe return.

“There are no immediate solutions, but we are continuing to push every available resource to resolve this situation and bring our people home safely,” he said.

He further confirmed that seven teachers were originally taken during the attack and reiterated that one of them, a Mathematics teacher, was confirmed killed after a video surfaced showing his execution.

The school attack occurred on Friday, May 15, when armed men stormed the institution, abducting the principal, several teachers, and some students in a violent raid that shocked the community.

The incident comes amid a series of security concerns in the state, following a failed kidnapping attempt weeks earlier along the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode highway, which resulted in the death of a traveller.
