VAR overturned a stoppage-time equaliser for West Ham United in their Premier League clash against Arsenal, denying the Hammers what would have been a crucial point in their fight against relegation as per reports from Daily Express on Sunday May 10, 2026.
West Ham believed they had drawn level when a corner kick caused chaos in the Arsenal penalty area, with goalkeeper David Raya failing to claim the ball cleanly before Callum Wilson converted.

Following a lengthy examination, the video assistant referee flagged that West Ham forward Pablo had fouled Raya during the aerial challenge, directly contributing to the goalkeeper’s failure to hold the ball.
The on-field referee was instructed to visit the pitchside monitor before formally reversing his original decision, awarding Arsenal a free kick instead.
The Premier League Match Centre confirmed the ruling, stating that Wilson had committed a foul on the goalkeeper, making the goal invalid.
Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard, who had scored the game’s only legitimate goal, revealed that Raya was immediately certain he had been fouled.
“Raya said straight away it can’t be a goal,” Trossard told Sky Sports, adding that the squad held faith in the goalkeeper’s conviction throughout the tense wait.
