The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has resigned from his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tuggar, a member of the All Progressives Congress, reportedly submitted his resignation on Monday, just 24 hours before the March 31, 2026, deadline set by the presidency.
President Bola Tinubu had directed all political appointees with electoral ambitions to vacate their offices on or before the deadline.
The directive, issued through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, aligns with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries ahead of the 2027 polls.
With Tuggar’s resignation, more political appointees are expected to step down in the coming days to meet the stipulated requirements for contesting elective offices.
