According to a report by DAILY POST on Thursday 4th June 2026, four members of the House of Representatives from Bauchi State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Allied Peoples Movement, adding to the growing pattern of party switching in the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made on Thursday during plenary when Speaker Tajudeen Abbas formally read the defection letters of the lawmakers on the floor of the House.
The affected legislators are Muhammed Shehu (Zaki Federal Constituency), Aliyu Garu (Bauchi Federal Constituency), Sani Tanko (Shira/Giade Federal Constituency), and Mansur Soro (Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency).
In a separate development, Jeremiah Umaru, representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, also left the All Progressives Congress for the Social Democratic Party.
The defections come amid an ongoing wave of political realignments across the House of Representatives, with several lawmakers recently shifting between parties including the PDP, APC, and smaller opposition groups.
