According to a report by The Punch on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the House of Representatives erupted into a chaotic shouting match on Thursday, June 4, 2026, as opposition lawmakers clashed over the minority leadership race.

The dispute centerd on severe allegations of signature forgery, blackmail, and financial bribery.

Trouble started during plenary when Philip Agbese, representing Benue State, raised a matter of personal privilege.

He accused fellow lawmaker Ikenga Ugochinyere of utilizing his signature without authorization on a document nominating Ugochinyere for the office of Minority Leader.

Agbese declared: “I feel that my legislative privilege has been breached because this amounts to forgery of my signature to be used for purposes for which it was not intended.”

Agbese also vehemently denied widespread social media rumors that opposition lawmakers accepted $50,000 bribes to support a candidate. He maintained that his integrity remains intact and requested a formal investigation into the matter.

Reacting on the floor, Ugochinyere fiercely denied the forgery allegation, labeling it “a treacherous lie.” The Imo lawmaker insisted that Agbese signed the document voluntarily in the presence of witnesses.

Ugochinyere announced that he commands overwhelming support, stating: “The overwhelming majority of 61 members out of 81 opposition members elected me.”

The claims triggered intense yelling from both factions, disrupting the session. Speaker Abbas Tajudeen intervened to restore order and declined to prolong the debate on the floor. Instead, the Speaker summoned all minority lawmakers to a closed-door meeting to address the leadership vacuum.

The crisis intensified following the defection of the former Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 Rivers State governorship race.

Favor As Higher Power?

(The hidden truth)

Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor.
