Laolu Akande has urged President Bola Tinubu to take stronger action against Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, warning that the country’s challenges are deepening under the current administration.

Speaking during a television interview, Akande said insecurity, kidnappings, and banditry continue to spread across several regions.

He argued that political leaders must accept responsibility and act decisively, stressing that “the president must take the responsibility” for addressing the crisis.

According to official YouTube channel of Channels on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Akande described the situation as a “systemic breakdown” that has left Nigerians paying what he called a “fear tax.”

He explained that parents worry daily about the safety of their children, while farmers face threats that prevent them from accessing their farms.

He said, “The system has broken down,” adding that citizens are increasingly living under fear and uncertainty.

The former presidential aide maintained that neither government officials nor ordinary citizens should treat the security situation as normal.

He declared that “Voices must be raised” and insisted that “There is a crisis of fear. There’s a crisis in this country today.”

Akande also criticized politicians for prioritizing political disputes during a national emergency, saying, “This is not a time for games,” while urging leaders to “Play up national security.”

Akande further questioned claims that insecurity may be politically motivated, arguing that the focus should remain on enforcing the law.

He said, “Whoever is doing it is a criminal,” regardless of political affiliation or motive.

The commentator also expressed concern about the quality of advice reaching the president, stating that Tinubu has “managed to surround himself with second class, third class, third level, 10th, 11 kind of people,” limiting effective decision making.

“Akande directly appealed to the president to demonstrate stronger leadership, warning that the nation’s security situation is deteriorating. He said, “Mr. President, sit up. Sit up,” before adding, “This is going down under your watch.”

While acknowledging that Tinubu did not create the crisis, Akande stressed that he is now responsible for confronting it, concluding, “We need President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give us his A game and we need it now.”
