According to a report by the Times of Israel on Thursday June 4, 2026, four Iranian-flagged oil tankers have been tracked passing through the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first such movement since mid-April and the reported tightening of restrictions on Iranian port access, according to maritime analytics firm Kpler.
The vessels – identified as the Hilda I, Amber, Silvia 1 and Happiness I – were detected moving through the strategic waterway on Monday. Combined, they were carrying an estimated seven million barrels of crude oil, the firm said in data released later in the week.
All four tankers are understood to have loaded their cargo around mid-April at Kharg Island, Iran’s primary oil export terminal. The facility is responsible for the vast majority of the country’s crude shipments, serving as a critical hub for exports.
Kpler’s analysis suggests the ships crossed the strait with their automatic identification system (AIS) transponders switched off, a practice often used in attempts to avoid real-time tracking.
The company, which relies heavily on satellite imagery and maritime intelligence, has been monitoring shipping activity in the region amid heightened geopolitical tension and shifting enforcement patterns affecting Iranian exports.
Once beyond the strait, the vessels are typically routed toward waters near Malaysia and Singapore, where ship-to-ship transfers take place. From there, cargo is usually moved onto other tankers bound for final destinations, with China frequently cited as a major buyer.
This method has long been associated with Iran’s efforts to navigate international sanctions and maintain crude oil flows despite external pressure.
Kpler also noted that a smaller group of Iranian-linked tankers had made similar movements earlier in April, though there had been no comparable crossings recorded since then until this latest passage.
