According to a report by DAILY POST on Friday 22nd May 2026, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has addressed growing political speculation surrounding Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his reported setback in the party’s second-term arrangement, insisting that the development was purely an internal party decision with no external interference.

The party dismissed suggestions that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, influenced its position, stressing that he is not a member of the APC and therefore had no role in its deliberations.

According to the APC Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Chibuike Ikenga, the decision regarding the governor’s political future was reached collectively by party stakeholders based on what they described as the need to promote stability and unity within the state.

He maintained that the outcome of the discussions reflected the party’s internal consensus rather than pressure from any political actor outside the APC structure.

Ikenga noted that while Wike remains a dominant figure in Rivers politics, his influence does not extend into the internal decision-making processes of the APC in the state.

The party further explained that its move was part of broader consultations ahead of the governorship primaries, where members agreed on a new political direction in the interest of what they called peace and progress in Rivers State.

Governor Fubara has previously acknowledged facing intense political pressure in the lead-up to the APC primaries, though he has been careful in publicly detailing the full circumstances surrounding the process.
