Al-Nassr striker Joao Felix opened up about the emotional burden that Cristiano Ronaldo carried during their challenging journey for local trophies in the Middle East. After a thrilling victory on the last day, which ended the club’s painful seven-year wait for a top league title, the Portuguese player discussed his teammate’s struggles and strong will to win the championship.
According to the BBC, Ronaldo’s goals ended a long drought. Al-Nassr clinched the 2025-26 Saudi Pro League title with an impressive 4-1 victory over relegated Damac at Al-Awwal Park on Thursday night. Ronaldo netted two spectacular goals in the second half, while Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman also scored, helping secure the championship by two points ahead of their rivals, Al-Hilal. This significant win marked the end of a seven-year wait for the Riyadh club, prompting summer signing Felix to address the intense pressure that impacted his legendary teammate behind the scenes.
Felix reflected on their domestic success after an exciting first season following his big move last summer. He acknowledged how he adapted to the team, recognized the club’s reputation, and shared his immense relief alongside Ronaldo after their victory. He told Sport TV: “I had some doubts initially, but I work hard every day to be my best. I found myself in a situation that really helped me—thanks to my position and my teammates. It turned out to be an amazing season that ended perfectly. When I make decisions, I consider them carefully. Coming to Al-Nassr wasn’t something I took lightly. Once I agreed, I committed fully. Sometimes things go well; sometimes they don’t. This time it went just right.”
He added: “This is special because we faced a lot of controversy around us. Winning with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia isn’t easy—many people back in Portugal might not understand that. There are many challenges outside of football here. Unfortunately, Al-Nassr is a smaller club, which makes winning the league tough. We did it, and it’s a memorable day for our fans and for the club.”
“Cris has been working hard to earn his first title here, especially in the league. I see what he goes through every day and how much he desires this victory. I even went over to give him a hug. As for who’s the best player in the Saudi league? Many players had great seasons, but now that Al-Nassr is champions, it should either be me or Cris.”
Sport TV reported that attention now shifts to international competitions. After securing their spot in the league and aiming for individual honors, Al-Nassr’s international players quickly focus on their national team responsibilities. Felix set aside any league celebrations as he concentrated on his country’s upcoming tournament goals.
When discussing their World Cup chances, Felix stated, “Now we have a few days to relax and spend time with family in Portugal before we start again on the 1st. After that, it’s time to move on from this championship win. Are we favorites for the World Cup? We just want to give our best effort game by game; everything will fall into place if we do so. We have an amazing team and with some luck, I believe we can win [the World Cup].”
