According to a report by London Evening Standard on Wednesday June 3, 2026, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been praised for his tactical approach by former Germany midfielder Toni Kroos, although Kroos admitted that the Gunners’ style can sometimes be less entertaining to watch despite its effectiveness.
Kroos said Arsenal’s structure and discipline are impressive, but he believes the team have enough attacking quality to occasionally play with more freedom and variation, rather than being so controlled and cautious in their approach during matches against top opposition.

The German legend specifically highlighted the technical ability of players like Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke, arguing that Arsenal have enough creativity and quality in attack to diversify their playing style further going forward.
However, Kroos also made clear that Arsenal’s success cannot be ignored, pointing out that their defensive organisation played a key role in their achievements and their ability to compete with Europe’s strongest attacking teams over the course of the season.
He noted that winning a Premier League title after many years, especially in such a competitive era, proves that Arteta’s methods are effective, even if they prioritise control and defensive stability over attacking entertainment in some major fixtures.
Kroos added that Arsenal’s ability to contain Paris Saint-Germain for long periods in the final shows elite defensive discipline, concluding that while their style may not always be exciting, it is still highly impressive and built for success at the highest level.
