According to the Anadolu Agency, there’s a sense of cautious movement, but also deep frustration, surrounding the latest diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran, as Donald Trump made clear he isn’t convinced a deal is within reach just yet.

Speaking to reporters on Friday as he prepared to leave the White House, Mr. Trump struck a measured but firm tone. Negotiations, he acknowledged, have made some headway. Still, the outcome remains uncertain. “They want to make a deal, but I’m not satisfied with it,” he said, signaling that the gap between both sides is still significant.

Behind the scenes, talks have been ongoing, with negotiators trying to ease tensions after months of conflict and economic strain. But according to the president, Iran’s demands are proving difficult to accept. “They’re asking for things that I can’t agree to,” he added, without going into detail.

Part of the challenge, Mr. Trump suggested, lies within Iran itself. He described a leadership that appears divided and inconsistent, making it harder to pin down a clear negotiating position. “Their leaders are not getting along with each other,” he said. “One says one thing, one says another. They’re very confused.”

The diplomatic struggle comes in the wake of a major escalation earlier this year. On Feb. 28, U.S. and Israeli forces carried out coordinated strikes on Iranian targets, dealing a heavy blow to the country’s military infrastructure and leadership.

Iran’s response was swift, with retaliatory attacks across the Gulf and disruptions to oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, moves that sent shockwaves through global energy markets.

Since then, the U.S. has tightened the pressure. A sweeping maritime blockade has choked off much of Iran’s oil exports, squeezing a key source of national income. The administration hopes this economic strain will eventually push Tehran to accept stricter terms, particularly around its nuclear program.

For now, though, a breakthrough remains elusive. While the guns have largely fallen silent following a mid-April ceasefire, the battle has shifted to the negotiating table, where both sides are still trying to find common ground, but not quite getting there.
