According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the allocation of land in Abuja for ambassadors and high commissioners-designate as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and international relations.
Wike made the disclosure on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the envoys, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, at his residence in Life Camp, Abuja.
He explained that the President’s decision was aimed at ensuring that Nigeria’s diplomatic representatives have residential access in the capital whenever they return for official engagements and briefings.
“The President believes that most of you do not have a place in Abuja. He wants to ensure you have where to stay when you come back,” Wike said. “Before you leave this morning, each and every one of you should have your form to apply for land allocation in Abuja.”
According to the minister, the initiative is also intended to deepen diplomatic engagement and strengthen the country’s global image. He urged the diplomats to represent Nigeria effectively in their respective countries of assignment.
“You are, in essence, the mirror of this country. The way the world sees you is the way it will see Nigeria,” he said.
Wike further encouraged the envoys to support President Tinubu’s efforts to attract foreign investment, noting that economic diplomacy remains a key priority of the administration.
He also dismissed concerns about Nigeria transitioning into a one-party system, insisting that the country remains committed to democratic governance.
Highlighting infrastructure development in the FCT, Wike said ongoing road projects and expansion efforts across Abuja’s area councils are positioning the capital as a modern global city. He also called for increased foreign investment in agriculture and waste management, particularly in underutilised areas such as Gwagwalada and Kwali.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed, said the visit formed part of an induction programme for the diplomats, aimed at familiarising them with Nigeria’s administrative and diplomatic priorities.
He noted that Abuja plays a central role in shaping Nigeria’s international relations and commended ongoing development efforts within the FCT.
The engagement also highlighted plans to strengthen cooperation between Nigeria’s foreign missions and domestic institutions to enhance investment promotion and international partnerships.
