The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, 19 March, and Friday, 20 March 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, signalling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan.
He urged Muslims to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasised during the fasting period.
The minister also called on Nigerians to use the festive season to pray for the nation’s continued peace, unity, and prosperity.
While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, he encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged.
The statement further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
