According to a report by TVC News, on Monday, June 1, 2026, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, stated that Northern Nigeria has remained one of the major beneficiaries of the infrastructure and development programmes being implemented by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Matawalle noted that the current government has continued to demonstrate commitment to the growth of the region through various projects and strategic appointments.
He explained that several prominent individuals from the North have been entrusted with important positions in government and are actively contributing to efforts aimed at ensuring that communities across the region enjoy the benefits of democratic governance.
The minister made these remarks while receiving supporters, political associates, and key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who paid him a Sallah homage at his residences in Maradun and Gusau Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
Speaking during the gathering, the former Governor of Zamfara State maintained that the North-West and the entire Northern region have no better option for the 2027 presidential election than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, renewing Tinubu’s mandate in 2027 would be a wise decision because Nigerians across the country have witnessed the impact of his administration since assuming office in 2023.
The visit marked Matawalle’s second trip to Zamfara State within three weeks.
He explained that the purpose of the engagement was to strengthen unity among party members, reconcile aggrieved stakeholders, mobilise support for President Tinubu and Governor Dauda Lawal, and encourage residents to continue backing the programmes of the current administration.
Matawalle stressed that the North has every reason to support the APC and President Tinubu, arguing that the region has benefited from major federal interventions and development projects.
He pointed to ongoing road projects, including the dualisation of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Sokoto highway and the Ilelah–Badagry Expressway, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits in the North.
According to him, these projects represent a level of development that the region had not experienced for many years, including periods when individuals from the North occupied the presidency.
The minister also urged Northerners to be cautious of politicians who, in his view, are attempting to mislead the public for personal political gain.
He argued that many of those attacking the APC-led government are motivated by selfish interests rather than a genuine concern for the welfare and progress of Nigerians.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 general election gradually gather pace, Matawalle appealed to residents of the region not to be influenced by critics of the ruling party.
He insisted that the Tinubu administration has shown a clear commitment to the development and advancement of Northern Nigeria and expressed confidence that the region would reward the President’s efforts at the ballot box.
He Said, ”I’m sure the North will shock the world with the Number of votes that will come from the region for the APC and president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The minister further disclosed that he has continued to engage with various political groups and stakeholders across Zamfara State, including youth and women organisations from the state’s 14 local government areas.
These meetings, he said, are aimed at strengthening support for the APC and promoting greater political participation.
Matawalle also reassured citizens of the Federal Government’s determination to tackle insecurity and restore lasting peace across the country.
He expressed confidence that ongoing efforts by security agencies and the government would continue to improve safety and stability for Nigerians.
