According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Monday, June 1, 2026, ADC Chieftain, Ladan Salihu, expressed confidence in the political prospects of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar despite recent defections involving some governors previously associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Salihu said Atiku remains a strong political force and is well-positioned ahead of the 2027 general election. He argued that the success of a presidential candidate is not solely dependent on the support of governors but also on the strength of the candidate, the political party, and the coalition built around the campaign.
The ADC chieftain maintained that many of the governors who have left the PDP no longer wield the level of political influence often attributed to them. According to him, some of these politicians may struggle to secure electoral victories even within their own constituencies if elections were held today.
Emphasizing his position, Salihu stated, “Most of the governors who have defected will not support him, as many of them have now become paper tigers in their states.”
He added that the coalition being assembled within the ADC is focused on building a broad political movement capable of providing an alternative leadership platform for Nigerians.
Salihu expressed optimism that the party’s growing alliance of political stakeholders would strengthen its chances in the 2027 elections and help advance its vision for governance and national development.
