According to a report by The Punch on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the security situation in Oyo State has taken a worrying turn following the early morning abduction of Mrs. Busayo Adelabu John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan.
The victim, who is the biological sister of former Power Minister Bayo Adelabu, was intercepted by armed men at 7:30 am on Wednesday around the Elewura-Challenge area.
Reports indicate that the attackers trailed the family’s vehicle from their residence before forcing them to a halt.
Reacting swiftly, the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) condemned the incident, expressing deep concern over the state’s fragile security architecture.
In a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party called on Governor Seyi Makinde to collaborate with security agencies to stop the rising tide of violence.
Sadare noted that this latest attack worsens public anxiety, coming closely after the unresolved May 15 abduction of over 40 teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area, alongside two staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN).
Furthermore, an APC chieftain, Wale Oriade, was similarly kidnapped in Ibadan back in December 2025.
“We demand immediate rescue of all Oriire school abductees, two CRIN staff, Mrs Busayo John-Paul and her children,” Sadare declared, while urging Governor Makinde to take decisive action. “As it stands, nobody is safe anywhere in the state and it has never been this bad.”
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command, through its spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that an investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction, while appealing to residents to remain calm.
