Otakpupu made the remarks during an interview aired on the official ARISE News YouTube channel on Monday, May 18, 2026, while discussing the future of opposition politics in Nigeria and the growing conversations surrounding preparations for the next presidential election.
According to him, Obi’s message continues to resonate with Nigerians across different age groups and social backgrounds despite the country’s current economic and political challenges.
He stated that many citizens still associate the former Anambra State governor with accountability, prudent governance, transparency, and fairness in leadership.
Speaking further, Otakpupu shared a personal experience he described as emotional, noting that it reflected the level of public attachment many Nigerians have developed toward Obi and the ideals of the Obidient Movement.
He recounted that while attending a church service recently, an eight-year-old child approached him with a message for the former presidential candidate.
“I was in church when a little 8-year-old child tapped me and said, ‘Tell Peter Obi not to worry, because God is with him,’” he said during the interview.
Otakpupu explained that the encounter left a strong impression on him because it showed that even younger Nigerians are becoming emotionally invested in discussions about governance and political change in the country.
He added that the sustained support for Obi’s political ideology suggests that many Nigerians are demanding reforms, improved governance, and greater accountability from political leaders as the 2027 elections draw closer.
