According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, June 4, 2026, former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has stated that only the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) stand a realistic chance of winning the 2027 presidential election.

Amadi made the remarks while discussing the shifting dynamics of Nigeria’s political space and how major parties are positioning themselves ahead of the next general election. He argued that the current structure of the political environment is increasingly narrowing the contest to two dominant blocs, leaving smaller parties with limited prospects.

In a series of posts shared on his X account, he suggested that voters may eventually be faced with a choice between the ruling APC and a major opposition alternative linked to former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

He also dismissed the chances of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that the party is unlikely to secure the presidency and may encounter legal or procedural hurdles that could affect its electoral participation. According to him, even minor legal disputes could potentially create complications significant enough to impact the party’s presence on the ballot.

Amadi further described the ADC as resembling a “mini-APC,” claiming there are ideological and structural similarities between the two parties. He urged stakeholders within the ADC to pay closer attention to its internal identity, long-term direction, and political strategy, noting that these factors may determine its future relevance in national politics.

He concluded that, in his assessment, the 2027 presidential race is likely to be dominated by two major forces: the ruling APC and a leading opposition platform.
