Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has said he still wants opposition figures to unite and remove President Bola Tinubu’s government if they can agree to come together.

Speaking on Trust TV, Datti Baba-Ahmed made this statement while saying he felt vindicated by how events unfolded within the ADC-led coalition. He recalled warning earlier this year that the coalition had structural defects and that ego and assumptions of control would cause it to break apart.

He said he noted that if Atiku Abubakar won the party’s ticket, others would have a problem; if Rotimi Amaechi won, others would object; and if Peter Obi won, others would still disagree.

He said what later happened in ADC proved him right because Obi was the first to leave, Amaechi lost the ticket and did not congratulate Atiku, and Hayatudin expressed displeasure.

He revealed that he was invited to join the ADC coalition but emphasized that he is not like the politicians that can be misled.

He added the hope for a broader coalition still exists beyond ADC, and that he is always happy about coming together to challenge the current administration.

In his words, “What happened is that they probably arrogated excess privileges to themselves, thinking that they had decided for other politicians to follow. And maybe I’m just not one of those that can’t be led by the nose.”

“There were invitations. I was happy. I’m always, always happy about coming together. Look, even now, if Atiku and others will agree, I still want us to go and melt in one pot and push out Tinubu’s government.”
