According to a report by Al Jazeera on Monday, May 11, 2026, An Iranian academic has alleged that the United States is using diplomatic negotiations as a delay tactic while preparing for the possibility of renewed military confrontation with Tehran.
Mostafa Khoshcheshm, a professor at Iran’s University of Applied Sciences and Technology, stated that Iranian officials believe Washington is not genuinely committed to negotiations and is instead “just killing time.”
Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera, Khoshcheshm argued that U.S. demands in the ongoing diplomatic process are unrealistic and reflect objectives that, in his view, were not achieved through prior conflict.
“The demands by Washington are so unrealistic. They want to earn something in the talks that they couldn’t in the war,” he said, adding that Iran does not view U.S. President Donald Trump as a reliable negotiating partner.
He further emphasized that Iran has consistently engaged in diplomatic discussions and has not withdrawn from the negotiating table at any stage.
“Iran has always been present at the negotiating table. It has never left,” he said. “The US is not willing to have serious talks. The door has been closed from the American side.”
Khoshcheshm also stated that Iran remains prepared for any potential return to conflict, claiming that recent developments in the Persian Gulf demonstrate the country’s readiness to respond decisively to military threats.
“Tehran is prepared for returning to the war if it is brought upon it,” he said, adding that “the clashes in the Persian Gulf last week show that Iranians are fully prepared in order to return any kind of attack with full force.”
The remarks reflect continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington as diplomatic efforts remain fragile and regional security concerns persist.
