According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Monday, May 11, 2026, Iranian authorities on Monday announced the execution of a man convicted of espionage for the United States and Israel, following the completion of judicial proceedings and the confirmation of his sentence by the country’s Supreme Court.
The executed individual, identified as Erfan Shakourzadeh, had been accused of collaborating with the Central Intelligence Agency and Israel’s Mossad while working with an Iranian institution involved in satellite-related scientific activities.
According to details released from the case, Shakourzadeh was reportedly employed by an Iranian organization operating in the field of satellite technology due to his technical expertise and scientific background.
Iranian judicial authorities alleged that while cooperating with the local scientific institution, he simultaneously established contact with foreign intelligence agencies and attempted to pass sensitive information to them.
Investigators claimed the accused initially sought cooperation with Mossad by completing and submitting forms containing personal and professional details. Authorities said the information allegedly provided included descriptions of his work assignments, family background, workplace responsibilities and projects linked to the scientific center where he was employed.
Court documents further alleged that after the initial contact, an individual posing as an Iranian living in Canada approached Shakourzadeh through the professional networking platform LinkedIn. Iranian authorities claimed the individual was an undercover Mossad operative who attempted to recruit him for projects said to involve foreign financial compensation.
The prosecution maintained that the communication later developed into a broader intelligence relationship, during which the accused allegedly attempted to provide classified information to Israeli handlers.
Iranian officials also alleged that Shakourzadeh later tried to establish ties with the CIA. According to the judiciary, he requested assistance from an American intelligence contact in obtaining a visa to the United States and opportunities for academic studies abroad.
Authorities stated that evidence presented during the investigation included documents, digital communications and what they described as direct confessions made by the accused during interrogations.
The judiciary said the espionage case moved through multiple stages of legal review before the final verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court.
The execution was reportedly carried out in the early hours of Monday after all legal procedures required under Iranian law were completed.
Iran has in recent years intensified actions against individuals accused of cooperating with foreign intelligence agencies, particularly amid heightened tensions involving Tehran, Washington and Tel Aviv.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly accused Western and Israeli intelligence services of attempting to infiltrate strategic sectors, including military, nuclear and technological institutions.
