According to a report by TheCable on Tuesday , May 19, 2026, The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has confirmed the arrest of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following his recent conviction by a Federal High Court.
The announcement was made by the chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede, who disclosed that the former minister was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday in Rigasa, Kaduna State.
The arrest came days after the court sentenced Mamman in absentia over corruption-related charges filed against him by the anti-graft agency.
According to the EFCC chairman, the former minister was arrested at about 3:30 a.m. during an operation carried out by the commission’s operatives in Kaduna State.
Olukoyede described the arrest as part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government to strengthen accountability and intensify the fight against corruption within public institutions.
He stated that the operation followed legal directives issued after Mamman failed to appear in court for sentencing proceedings connected to the case against him.
Earlier in May, the Federal High Court convicted Mamman on all 12 counts brought against him by the EFCC.
The court subsequently sentenced him to a total of 75 years imprisonment.
The sentencing structure included seven-year jail terms on 10 separate counts, while counts four and five carried prison terms of three years and two years respectively.
The judgment was delivered by Justice James Omotosho, who ruled that the prison terms should run consecutively rather than concurrently.
The court also ruled that there would be no option of fine for most of the counts except for count four, where a fine of 10 million naira was permitted.
The court further ordered the forfeiture of foreign currencies recovered during investigations linked to the former minister.
In addition, four high-value properties located in Abuja and allegedly traced to him were ordered forfeited to the federal government.
The ruling formed part of broader recovery measures connected to the corruption case.
Authorities stated that the recovered assets and funds were linked to the allegations investigated by the anti-corruption commission during the prosecution process.
Justice Omotosho also directed all security agencies in Nigeria to work together with Interpol to ensure the arrest and detention of the convicted former minister.
The court held that his prison sentence would begin from the date of his arrest.
This directive became important after Mamman was absent during the sentencing stage of the trial, leading authorities to intensify efforts to locate and apprehend him following the court judgment.
He said, “I’m happy to announce to Nigerians that at about 3.30am this morning, we arrested Mr. Saleh Mamman somewhere in Rigasa, Kaduna state,” Olukoyede told journalists at the EFCC headquarters.”
