According to a report by Al Jazeera on May 20, 2026, the price of oil around the world experienced a significant drop after President Donald Trump of the United States voiced hope over ongoing negotiations with Iran and claimed that diplomatic efforts were getting closer to becoming successful.
The price of a barrel of Brent crude fell by more than five percent, reaching $105.70, as investors responded to statements made by President Trump regarding the current state of the negotiations.
During his speech on Wednesday, President Trump stated that discussions with Iran were coming to a “final stage.” His comments sparked optimism that a diplomatic breakthrough could assist in preventing a more widespread conflict in the region and bolstering the stability of energy supply around the world.
On the other hand, he continued to exert pressure on Tehran, threatening that additional attacks might be carried out in the event that Iran does not accept a peace agreement.
