According to a report by Al Jazeera on May 20, 2026, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Tehran “has consistently honored its commitments and explored every avenue to avert war” as tensions continue in the region.
He reiterated Iran’s openness to diplomacy, writing on X that “All paths remain open from our side,” stressing that the country is still willing to pursue dialogue despite mounting political pressure and international disputes.
Pezeshkian also pushed back against what he described as efforts to force Iran into submission through pressure or coercion. He stated, “Forcing Iran to surrender through coercion is nothing but an illusion. Mutual respect in diplomacy is far wiser, safer, and more sustainable than war.”
The Iranian president emphasized that engagement based on respect remains the only realistic path to resolving differences and avoiding further escalation. His remarks come at a time of heightened regional uncertainty, with Iran seeking to project both restraint and resolve in its foreign policy messaging.
He further maintained that Tehran’s approach is grounded in protecting national sovereignty while also promoting stability across the region. According to him, diplomacy remains preferable to conflict, even as disagreements persist with Western governments over security and strategic issues.
