According to the Anadolu agency, the White House is signaling that negotiations with Iran may be approaching a decisive moment, though the tone coming from Washington suggests diplomacy is still walking side by side with the threat of escalation.
Speaking on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said talks with Tehran had entered their “final stages,” raising the possibility that months of tense backchannel diplomacy could soon produce either a breakthrough or a dangerous collapse.
“We will reach an agreement with Iran, or we will do some very unpleasant things,” Trump said, before adding that he hoped “that won’t happen.”
The remark captured the uneasy balance shaping the current negotiations. On one side is growing pressure to avoid another major crisis in the Middle East, particularly after years of regional instability, economic strain, and military confrontations involving Iran and its allies. On the other is a US administration determined to show that it is prepared to increase pressure if diplomacy stalls.
Trump offered few details about the substance of the talks, but his insistence that discussions are nearing an endpoint suggests both sides may be testing whether a deal remains politically and strategically possible.
“We are in the final stages of negotiations with Tehran,” he said.
