The Qatari Government has thrown its weight behind extending the fragile two-week ceasefire between the American Government, and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei if upcoming Pakistan-mediated talks in Islamabad fail to produce a breakthrough, warning that a return to hostilities would strangle the global economy.
According to a report made by Anadolu English on Tuesday, 21 April, 2026, the Spokesperson of the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Majed al-Ansari while speaking during a news conference in Doha, expressed Qatar’s strong support for Pakistani mediation efforts while emphasizing that continued fighting serves no party’s interests, further saying “We support extending the ceasefire until a peaceful solution is achieved. Return to hostilities is in no one’s interest and would choke the global economy.”
He also denied that Gulf countries have been excluded from current regional developments, insisting that Qatar remains in close contact with multiple parties and is closely monitoring the situation, further noting that the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global oil and gas exports had transformed what might otherwise be a regional conflict into a global economic emergency.
Ansari also ad “We are working with all partners to restore the strait to its previous state.”
The Qatari Spokesman went further to urged the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to reengage in communication for a peaceful resolution, calling on Iranian leaders to return to the negotiating table. His appeal follows Tehran’s announcement on March 2 of restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring that those restrictions have disrupted global energy supplies and contributed to soaring fuel prices worldwide.
