Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has warned that public anger over alleged police misconduct could trigger a renewed nationwide protest movement similar to the 2020 EndSARS demonstrations.
Sowore made the remarks while speaking to journalists, as aired by TV Platinum on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in reaction to recent incidents involving police officers.
He suggested that public sentiment is already shifting toward large-scale protest action in response to ongoing allegations of brutality. “They will see an EndSARS 2.0 coming up soon. You can tell already by the immediate reaction of Nigerians that they hate police brutality,” he said.
Referring to a widely circulated incident involving a police officer, Sowore questioned the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the identity of those involved. “If you see the guy who shot him, he was not in uniform. Most of them who are committing these atrocities are the former SARS people. They should have dismissed from the police who are still in the police force,” he stated.
He further alleged that such individuals are responsible for repeated cases of extrajudicial killings across the country. “They are the ones carrying out these extrajudicial killings. They can never change and they know them but they are the ones they rely on most to do dirty jobs, because they bring in the highest amount of returns,” Sowore said.
The activist also raised concerns about the safety of individuals who document such incidents, suggesting that witnesses may be at risk. “They didn’t know who took the video otherwise they could have killed the person who also took the video. That’s how wicked the Nigerian police is,” he added.
