Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has reacted to reports suggesting a possible Turkish military presence in Nigeria, stating that critics of foreign troop involvement may have to contend with a new reality.
Sani made the comment on his X handle, where he referenced ongoing debates about foreign military partnerships in the country’s fight against terrorism.
“Those who don’t like the American military presence will now have the Turkish military presence, if the reports are true,” he said.
He noted that both the United States Armed Forces and Turkish Armed Forces have operated in conflict zones such as Syria for years, suggesting that their involvement could influence counterterrorism efforts.
Sani expressed hope that any such collaboration would bring tangible benefits to Nigeria’s ongoing battle against insurgency.
“Hoping that their presence here will add significant value to the war against terrorism in our country,” he added.
