A statement by Primate Elijah Ayodele on 19 May 2026, shared via a video on his official Facebook account, highlighted a political alert he gave about the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s Southeast region prior to the 2027 general elections.
In the video, Primate Ayodele warned political figures against what he referred to as unrealistic hopes regarding the electoral power of the APC in the Southeast. He remarked that any notion suggesting the party would achieve victory in this area was incorrect.
“Do not allow your advisors to mislead you into believing that the APC will triumph in the Southeast. It won’t,” Primate Ayodele stated in the video posted on his official Facebook page.
The religious leader pointed out that the unique political environment of the Southeast is influenced by established political ties, local sentiments, and unwavering voter loyalty that all significant political parties need to consider for electoral success in the region.
He indicated that the APC should re-evaluate its political approach in the Southeast if it wants to make tangible headway. He cautioned that overconfidence or dependence on false political guidance could result in a negative outcome during voting.
Primate Ayodele further highlighted that the Southeast has regularly shown a strong political identity in past elections, with voters frequently supporting parties and candidates they feel align with their priorities. He warned that neglecting these realities could undermine any party’s chances in the area.
He also urged political leaders to prioritize authentic interaction, community outreach, and policies that truly solve the people’s issues instead of depending on assumptions or misleading internal political information.
The cleric emphasized that the political situation in Nigeria needs thorough strategizing and precise information, particularly with the 2027 elections on the horizon. He cautioned that deceptive political counsel from trusted advisors could lead to poor decision-making within political parties.
