Speaking during a Pentagon briefing, Caine stated that 34 ships had encountered the blockade and “made the wise choice to turn around,” underscoring what he described as the growing effectiveness of the operation.
Caine explained that US Central Command is leading extensive interdiction efforts targeting sanctioned vessels and those linked to Iran’s so-called “dark fleet.” According to him, the operations are not limited by nationality, with any ship traveling to or from Iranian ports subject to scrutiny. The strategy, he noted, is part of broader efforts to tighten economic pressure and disrupt maritime activities connected to Iran.
He also revealed that one vessel, the container ship MV Touska, failed to comply with repeated warnings issued by US forces. The ship was intercepted after attempting to breach the blockade, prompting swift action from US personnel.
