According to a report by The Times of Israel, Following a week of intense naval skirmishes and a newly brokered, yet fragile, truce, President Donald Trump announced that a massive operation is underway to reopen one of the world’s most critical maritime checkpoints.
In a statement, the President signaled a shift from combat operations to a complex recovery mission in the Persian Gulf.
“We’re now starting the process of clearing out the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote, addressing the global concern over the blockage that has stalled nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply.
The President also provided a grim update on the status of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval assets.
Throughout the conflict, small, fast-moving Iranian vessels were identified as the primary source of the careless mining that has paralyzed the waterway.
According to the President, the threat posed by these vessels has been permanently neutralized. Trump noted that “all 28” of Iran’s “mine dropper boats are also lying at the bottom of the sea.”
While the destruction of the Iranian minelaying fleet prevents further explosives from being deployed, military analysts warn that the “clearing out” process will be anything but simple.
