According to a report by the Punch on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho has alleged that political interests are contributing to the insecurity affecting parts of Nigeria, particularly the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State. He claimed that some powerful individuals were backing criminal elements and vowed that he was prepared to expose those involved if the situation continued.
Igboho made the remarks while hosting the newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan. During the meeting, he expressed concern over the worsening security situation and maintained that more decisive action was needed to protect communities from kidnappers and other criminal groups.
Speaking on the recent abduction of pupils in Oyo State, the activist insisted that he had volunteered to assist in rescue efforts but was prevented from doing so by the state government. He argued that security agencies and authorities should make use of every available resource to combat the growing threat posed by bandits and kidnappers operating in forests across the region.
Igboho also linked the current security challenges to what he described as attempts to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration. According to him, “The same thing they did to Jonathan is what they are doing to Tinubu.” He suggested that certain political actors were deliberately working to create instability, spread fear among citizens and weaken public confidence in the government.
He further alleged that those behind such actions were using insecurity and propaganda to advance their objectives, warning that continued attacks on innocent citizens, especially schoolchildren, should not be tolerated. The activist reiterated his readiness to support efforts aimed at restoring security, stressing that protecting lives and ensuring the safe return of abducted victims must remain a priority for all stakeholders.
