According to a report by DAILY POST on Wednesday 20th May 2026, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, says the country’s leaders are under increasing strain as the ongoing war continues to affect governance and national stability.
In a statement marking the second anniversary of the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi, Khamenei said the realities of war have placed “a heavier burden of responsibility” on officials of the Islamic Republic.
He noted that the conflict has made governance more difficult, especially in handling economic challenges and maintaining stability, urging leaders to remain closer to the needs of citizens.
Khamenei stressed that officials must take greater responsibility in addressing public concerns, particularly rising economic hardship and security pressures.
The comments come amid continued tensions between Iran and the United States, with both sides exchanging warnings as the conflict persists; U.S. President Donald Trump has recently suggested that the war may soon come to an end, though no formal agreement has been reached.
