According to a report by Al Jazeera on May 20, 2026, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei marked the second anniversary of the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash, saying that “Iran is showing a unique historical resistance against two global terrorist armies,” referring to Israel and the US, according to the Fars News Agency.
In a separate written statement, Khamenei said the ongoing war has made the burden on officials “heavier than before,” while also expressing appreciation for the “unity of the nation.” He suggested that Iran’s leadership is operating under increasing pressure as regional tensions persist, but stressed that internal cohesion has remained intact.
State media reports said the commemoration of Raisi’s death was used to highlight his political legacy and reinforce messages of continuity within Iran’s governing system. Officials used the occasion to underline that, despite external challenges involving the United States and Israel, the country remains focused on stability and national unity.
