According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Sunday, April 19, 2026, Iran has not yet decided whether to send a negotiating delegation to Pakistan for a new round of talks with the United States, according to local media reports on Sunday, following remarks by US President Donald Trump that American negotiators would arrive in Pakistan on Monday for discussions aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Iran’s leadership is still weighing participation, stating that talks with Washington will not proceed while a naval blockade remains in place.
According to Tasnim, communication between Tehran and Washington has continued in recent days through a Pakistani intermediary after the first round of negotiations concluded last weekend. The outlet described the exchanges as a continuation of the same diplomatic channel previously established.
The agency further quoted Iranian negotiators as saying, “as long as US President Donald Trump’s declaration regarding a naval blockade of Iran remains in place, there will be no negotiations.”
A White House official told Anadolu that US Vice President JD Vance, along with special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are expected to travel to Pakistan for discussions on Iran.
President Donald Trump told Fox News that meetings are scheduled to take place in Islamabad on Tuesday, with the possibility of extending into Wednesday depending on progress.
Shipping activities through the Strait of Hormuz have been significantly disrupted since the US-Israeli conflict with Iran began on February 28th while a US naval blockade was announced on April 13th.
