According to a report by The Times Of Israel on April 19, 2026, Defense Minister Israel Katz said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been directed to operate with “full force” in Lebanon, even as a ceasefire remains in place, if Israeli soldiers encounter any danger.
Speaking at an event in the West Bank, Katz stated that the directive was issued jointly with Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasizing that troop safety remains a top priority despite the fragile truce. “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have instructed the IDF to act with full force, both on the ground and from the air, including during the ceasefire, in order to protect our soldiers in Lebanon from any threat,” Katz says.
He indicated that the military’s mandate goes beyond immediate defensive actions, extending to proactive measures along the border region. According to Katz, forces have also been tasked with targeting and dismantling structures believed to have been used by Hezbollah in frontline villages.
He described these buildings as posing a direct risk to Israeli communities, saying the IDF had been ordered “to remove the houses in the [frontline] villages near the border that served in every respect as Hezbollah terror outposts and threatened Israeli communities.”
The remarks highlight Israel’s stance that the ceasefire does not limit its ability to respond decisively to perceived threats. Katz’s comments suggest that military operations could continue in sensitive areas if deemed necessary to ensure the safety of Israeli personnel and civilians, underscoring ongoing tensions along the northern border despite the formal pause in hostilities.
