Senator Ahmed Wadada, representing Nasarawa West, has officially notified the Nigerian Senate of his resignation from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The lawmaker stated that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) came after deep reflection and wide-ranging consultations with his constituents.
He argued that a leadership crisis within the SDP has damaged the party’s unity, making it difficult for the platform to contribute to national progress.
According to a live broadcast on AIT News on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Wadada clarified that although the formal announcement happened today, he had actually rejoined the APC at the ward level back in August 2025.
He insisted that the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, played a major role in his return to his former political home.
The Senator described the APC as the party he helped build from the ground up and expressed his full commitment to the “Renewed Hope” agenda.
He challenged the leadership of the SDP to focus on internal reforms if they hope to provide a better platform for future political aspirants.
Speaking during the plenary session at the 2:51 mark, it was noted that Wadada’s move followed his assessment of the legislative reforms being pushed by the current Senate leadership.
The lawmaker stated that he is officially leaving his former political platform to fully reintegrate into the progressive family at the national level.
He suggested that technical issues are the only reason some of his colleagues have not yet made similar moves to join the ruling party.
The Senate leadership acknowledged the formal notice, noting that the defection shows a growing alignment of lawmakers with the administration’s policies.
Wadada remains a major political figure in Nasarawa State as attention begins to shift toward the 2027 governorship race.
