According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Italy has expressed support for potential restrictions on imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to remarks made by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during a parliamentary session on Thursday.
Speaking before lawmakers in the Italian Senate, Tajani said the situation in the West Bank is deteriorating and called for urgent changes to address escalating tensions and violence in the territory.
“Things in the West Bank are not going well, they must change, and we have said this clearly,” he said, according to the Italian news agency ANSA. He added that Italy maintains its position that settlement expansion should end, along with what he described as violence carried out by extremist settlers.
Tajani further indicated that Italy, alongside several European partners, is examining the possibility of introducing trade restrictions on products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied territory. He said such measures are being considered as a way to reduce financial support linked to what he described as extremist settler networks.
“We are also positively evaluating the possibility of restrictions on imports of goods produced in the occupied West Bank,” Tajani said, describing the initiative as one aimed at cutting off funding sources connected to settler activity.
His comments come shortly after Italy, together with Germany, opposed proposals within the European Union to suspend the EU–Israel Association Agreement during a Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg. The agreement governs political and trade relations between the EU and Israel.
Speaking after that meeting, Tajani noted differences in approach among European partners, particularly with Spain, while emphasising alignment with Germany’s position.
“We have a different position from Spain, because theirs doesn’t seem like the right path to take. Our position is identical to Germany’s,” he told reporters earlier in the week.
The discussion over trade measures comes amid rising international concern over escalating violence in the West Bank since the outbreak of the war in Gaza in October 2023. According to reported figures, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, with thousands more injured and tens of thousands detained during ongoing military operations and security raids.
Violence involving Israeli forces and settlers has also drawn increasing scrutiny from European governments and human rights organisations, with growing calls for accountability and de-escalation in the occupied territory.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
