According to a report by The Sun Thursday, April 23, 2026, Senator Abdul Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central in the National Assembly, has raised concerns that Nigeria could slide into widespread disorder if urgent and decisive actions are not taken to confront the country’s escalating insecurity challenges.
He expressed worry over the deteriorating security situation, noting that it is placing serious pressure on national stability and demanding immediate attention from authorities at all levels.
He made the remarks during an appearance on Politics Today, where he explained that although Nigeria is not officially engaged in any war, the current security environment reflects a state of severe confusion and instability.
He described the situation as one marked by repeated violent incidents occurring across different parts of the country, affecting both rural and urban communities and creating a growing sense of insecurity.
Ningi further noted that the nature of attacks has changed significantly, with armed groups now extending their operations to target senior members of the armed forces.
He pointed out that incidents increasingly involve assaults on high-ranking military officers, including generals, captains, and lieutenant colonels, indicating a worrying expansion in the scale and boldness of violent actors operating within the country.
He added that the frequency of such attacks has become more alarming, with security breaches occurring almost on a daily basis in some areas.
According to him, this pattern reflects a deepening security crisis that continues to test the effectiveness of ongoing operations aimed at curbing the activities of armed groups across the nation.
The senator also stressed the importance of accountability in governance, calling on citizens to take a more active role in questioning political leaders about how insecurity is being handled.
He maintained that stronger public engagement is necessary to ensure that those in authority respond more decisively and effectively to the rising threats confronting the country.
Ningi drew attention to structural and operational challenges within Nigeria’s security system, particularly highlighting shortages in manpower across key institutions responsible for defence and intelligence.
He explained that agencies such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Department of State Services are all experiencing personnel deficits.
He added that despite these limitations, security forces continue to engage armed groups that have intensified attacks in different parts of the country.
