Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has shared his thoughts on the reported resignation of Wale Edun from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, officially said to be due to health reasons.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Dalung described Edun as a long-time associate of Tinubu and someone he considers a close friend. He explained that during his own time in government, Edun used to visit him regularly. However, he noticed a change in their relationship after Edun was appointed as a minister, saying communication between them stopped.
He suggested that this situation reflects the kind of political environment around the president. According to him, Tinubu operates in a highly strategic and controlled way, expecting complete loyalty from those around him. Dalung believes that this style of leadership can affect personal relationships and create distance, even among long-time allies.
Dalung also hinted that there may be more to Edun’s resignation than what has been publicly stated. While he acknowledged the official explanation of health concerns, he implied that insiders may know additional details that have not been shared with the public.
Despite everything, Dalung spoke positively about Edun, describing him as a good person and someone he respects. He expressed concern that if someone as close to the president as Edun could face such challenges, others in the political circle might also feel uncertain about their position.
In his words, “Wale Edun, one of my best friends, when I was a minister he was visiting me, but the day they inaugurated him, he has not pick my call. And I didn’t want to bother about that.”
