BREAKING: Abdullahi Alleges Government May Be Masking Role in Opposition Crises

According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has strongly criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, describing it as one of the most shameless administrations in the country’s democratic history.

His comments came amid growing political tension following recent developments within the People’s Redemption Party.

Abdullahi accused the government of weakening opposition parties and creating an atmosphere that threatens democratic competition in Nigeria.

He made the remarks through a post shared on his official X account on Tuesday, where he expressed concern about what he described as a repeated pattern of political interference and instability affecting opposition platforms across the country.

Abdullahi referred specifically to the latest crisis involving the PRP and said the events surrounding the party raised serious questions about the state of Nigeria’s democracy.

According to him, the strategy of attacking or destabilising opposition parties for political advantage could eventually damage the country’s democratic system.

He argued that democracy works best when different political parties are allowed to operate freely and compete fairly without intimidation or pressure.

He warned that a political environment where opposition voices are constantly weakened could reduce public confidence in the electoral process and make citizens feel excluded from national politics.

His statement added to ongoing debates about the relationship between the ruling party and opposition groups ahead of future political activities in the country.

Speaking further on the issue, Abdullahi explained that about three weeks ago, the leadership of the PRP, headed by National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to the ADC leadership.

According to him, shortly after the meeting took place, rumours began circulating that a political coalition was considering the PRP as a possible platform for future political collaboration.

He suggested that soon after those reports emerged, signs of crisis began appearing within the PRP.

Abdullahi implied that the development followed a familiar pattern that has affected several opposition parties in recent years.

He maintained that while the government might publicly deny involvement in such internal problems, many observers were beginning to notice similarities in the way these disputes develop.

The ADC spokesman stated that the pattern of political crises affecting opposition parties could not simply be dismissed as ordinary internal disagreements.

He said the repeated nature of such incidents has raised concerns among political observers and citizens who are closely monitoring developments in the country.

Abdullahi argued that the shrinking political space in Nigeria should worry everyone who values democracy and freedom of political association.

He maintained that opposition parties play an important role in holding governments accountable and providing alternative ideas for national development.

According to him, any attempt to weaken those parties for short-term political gain could have long-term consequences for democratic stability.

He added that the international community and Nigerians alike are watching the direction of the country’s politics closely.

He said, “The government may continue to deny any involvement in the crises within other parties, insisting that these are merely internal failures, but the pattern is visible. The world can see what is happening. More importantly, they can see where this path leads.”
