Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, in an interview with The SUN criticized Nigeria’s electoral system, calling it distasteful and disgusting.

When asked about the reported failure of reconciliation efforts within the PDP, he said the process was used to deceive party members. According to him, the idea of reconciliation first came from the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which advised that members of the same political family should try to settle their differences. He said they accepted the advice, held meetings, and formed a committee.

However, he said that when they met the Wike group to discuss, the group was not interested in peace and instead focused on planning its own party convention.

He questioned the purpose of the planned convention and whether proper rules were followed in choosing delegates. He also accused those involved of ignoring due process and said history would judge their actions.

He further said: “I saw Saraki and Makarfi there, and I was disappointed. As for Saraki, I was there the day his father brought him to meet Baba Obasanjo to join the party and they welcomed him.

“Atiku adopted him and said, ‘Come and be Senior Special Adviser to me.’ When Atiku subsequently contested for the presidential candidacy, did Saraki not join to contest against his own patron?”

He said the person was later made chairman of the party’s reconciliation committee, and described the outcome of that process as shameful.

He also questioned how he became Senate President, saying he was originally elected on the APC platform but did not have enough support within that party, so he depended on PDP members to become Senate President.
