Primate Elijah Ayodele, the Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church (IESC) Worldwide, has forecast a fresh wave of political realignment in Nigeria ahead of future elections, saying that some state governors may eventually defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political activities intensify.
In a message shared recently via his official Facebook page, the cleric suggested that the ADC could begin to attract prominent political figures who are increasingly seeking alternatives outside the country’s dominant political parties.
According to him, growing dissatisfaction within existing political structures may push some governors to explore new platforms, with the opposition ADC emerging as a potential beneficiary of such realignments.
“Some governors will join the ADC,” Ayodele declared, noting that such a development could significantly alter political calculations across various regions of the country.
He further explained that while the ADC may gain momentum through possible alliances and defections, the party is also likely to face strong resistance from political actors who may not welcome its expansion.
The prophet warned that legal and institutional strategies could be deployed in attempts to weaken or limit the influence of the party as it seeks to grow its base.
“They will not want to give them what they want, but the fight has just started,” he said, describing the unfolding situation as the beginning of a broader political struggle.
Ayodele, however, maintained that efforts to frustrate the party may not achieve their intended outcome. Instead, he suggested that such opposition could end up strengthening the ADC by increasing public attention and sympathy toward the platform.
“They will use all legality to destroy the ADC but it might be difficult. The more they fight them, the stronger they become,” he added.
He called on political stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate tensions, stressing that political competition should remain democratic, issue-based, and peaceful.
